For the projects' development, the EDMAKTUB Association has available the research motor sailor "The GETAWAY MAKTUB", equipped with the following material:
Navigation equipment
Starting with the navigation equipment our motor sailor is equipped with a modern GPS and a medium depth ecosounder both connected with the vessel computer system. This will give us a great precision to locate geographically the places and animals studied. Moreover, the boat has a full general equip of navigation including the radio system, radar, automatic pilot and various measure apparatus (speedometer, weather cock/anemometer, barometer).
Scientific equipment
The scientific equipment is composed of a portable computer which at the same time can centralize all the navigational functions as the data base and processing of all the data both the human related, as sightings, as by means of acoustic equipment. The acoustic system consists in an hydrophone tow array with a 100m cable prepared to receive the existing underwater sounds and specially those produced by cetaceans. Thus let us its recording in a digital recorder and posterior study and at the same time use them in real time to locate the individuals vocalizing by means of a specific software. Also, a part of the scientific equipment will be all the technical material which will allow us the sampling and posterior study at the laboratory, as well as the veterinary first aid to distressed animals.
Scuba diving gear
The dedication to the aquatic environment of our association makes necessary the presence in our boat of an assorted scuba diving material. This equipment consists in an air compressor to fill the air tanks plus six full scuba diving gears with all the necessary accessories for developing this activity in a professional level and completely autonomous. On another hand this equipment is prepared and incorporates the necessary material for scuba teaching and its practice from the first steps. Parallel to the scuba equipment exists an auxiliary inflatable dinghy which will help as a support for the scuba divers.
Image equipment
At the end, but not less important, all the activities are registered by means of video and photography. Our video equipment, of DVCAM professional quality, which includes also a housing for underwater recording, allows taken images form part of the undergoing research results. Moreover these images can be used for documentaries, thanks to their quality and interest are of great utility as audiovisual works for the spreading of the marine environment
